Merrill takes backstage role at Mercury
Article Abstract:
Carol Galley, co-head of Mercury Asset Management PLC, is happy with the way that Merrill Lynch and Co., which acquired Mercury for $5.3 billion last year, allows her company a good deal of independence. Merrill Lynch is barely visible in Mercury's senior level management, however, the company has set investing guidelines, mainly in response to Mercury's struggling equity fund MUKE.

Vietnamese acquire a taste for stocks without an exchange
Article Abstract:
Vietnamese citizens have securities in the newly privatized companies of the country but do not have a stock exchange to trade them in 2000. Government officials have promised an exchange since 1995. Vietnam is one of the only Asian countries without an exchange.
