Micheldever Station Market Town

Article Abstract:

Hampshire County Council are experiencing difficulty with central government requirements that they allow an extra 66,500 houses in the county by 2001. One partial solution is to build a new market town at Micheldever Station, containing 5,000 homes. There has been considerable local interest in the project, with 4,300 people holding 'Shire Certificates', which enable them to be informed of progress on the development.

Article Abstract:

Regional shopping centres are defined as having more than 400,000 feet of selling space, and include eating facilities and leisure developments. They are planned and sold as one entity. Critics say they are inaccessible to non-car owners and lead to job losses. Others say they stimulate the economy locally and nationally, provide jobs for women and increase local pride.

Managing town centres; case study in Sudbury, Suffolk

Article Abstract:

The town of Sudbury in Suffolk has been rejuvenated . The District Council saw its role as enabling others to participate, and to encourage new investment in the town. This strategy was part of the local plan, and has involved the whole community. Access to the town was improved, new shops were introduced and pedestrians given priority in shopping areas.
