Millennium Bridge

Article Abstract:

A joint British/Japanese entry is one of six shortlisted designs for the planned Millennium Bridge linking the City of London with the new Tate Gallery in Bankside. Three of the other shortlisted entries have been submitted by UK teams, with one coming from Denmark and one from the US. Well-known figures who have been involved with the teams include architects Norman Foster and Frank Gehry and sculptors Anthony Caro and Richard Serra. The winning design will be announced in Dec 1996.

Article Abstract:

The Prince Edward Theatre, London, England has been refurbished and improved. The exterior of the 1930 building has been enhanced by means of dramatic lighting emphasising the entrance and enlivening the side elevation. Internally, the auditorium has been improved acoustically and the lighting designed to enhance the decoration. The foyer has also been restored to its original condition with new lighting that complements the decor.

Article Abstract:

The benefits of the use of lime in modern buildings discovered by a number of professionals used for maintaining and repairing traditional buildings is presented. The practical techniques required for the use of lime and their application are outlined.
