Musharraf's Morass

Article Abstract:

Concern exists that Pervez Musharraf might strengthen his control of Pakistan by dissolving the parliament, and reimpose military rule. The country is suffering from religious fundamentalism, low support for Musharraf by the military, and international relations with India. To bolster his control, he is expected to seek help from the U.S. and the U.K.

Pakistan's President and army chief Pervez Musharraf's military efforts to establish control and fight back the extremists are evaluated. However, with the dismissal and replacement of Prime Minister Zafrullah Khan Jamali, the situation in Pakistan has become quite unstable and polarized that no quick solution is seen on the way.
