TAIWAN: CASINO'S GOALS

Article Abstract:

Casino, the French retail chain, intends to continue its development in Taiwan, and to become the second largest retail chain there. Casino, which has -two Geant hypermarkets in Taiwan, has formed a joint-venture named Far Eastern Geant with the local Far Eastern Group which has seven hypermarkets under the Aimi and Hyper retail chains. Far Eastern Geant will ultimately have about 20 hypermarkets under the Aimi Geant retail chain, which will be supplied by a joint purchasing group. Far Eastern Geant is expected to make a turnover of FFr 3.6bn in 2000, from ten hypermarkets.

FRANCE: SYSTEM U AND CPFR

Systeme U, the French retail chain, and Lesieur are going to set up the first French CPFR (Collaborative Planning, Forecasting, and Replenishment) pilot unit in the logistics domain. This pilot will deal with setting up programs to forecast promotional sales.

NETHERLANDS: HEIJN IN INSURANCE WITH AEGON

Article Abstract:

Albert Heijn, the Dutch retail group, and the Ageon insurance company, has signed an partnership agreement which will enable the Albert Heijn retail chain to sell insurance policies in its stores starting January 2001. The two companies have not provided details on the selection of insurance products, although they promise an 'innovative' approach. Other Dutch supermarkets and insurance companies are talking about launching a similar offer. The Laurus group (Super de Boer supermarkets) is said to be negotiating with Postbank and Schuitema (C 1000 supermarkets) is said to be holding discussions with the Achmea insurance group.
