Finland and Sweden will hold public referendums to determine if their nations will join a European monetary union. Voters in Denmark surprised the world by vetoing their government's endorsement of the treaty. Forecasts for the Swedish and Finish votes are analysed.

Switzerland is holding a public referendum to ratify 60 changes to Swiss laws required if the nation is to take first steps toward joining the European Community. Switzerland's relations with the EC are analysed.
