New RTM322 partnership

Article Abstract:

Rolls-Royce Turbomeca and BMW Rolls-Royce GmbH has reached a partnership deal for the development, production and marketing in the RTM322 turboshaft engine project. BMW Rolls-Royce will receive a 23.2 percent interest in the engine projected proposed for the NH-90 helicopters. Rolls-Royce Turbomeca's RTM322 is competing with a team by General Electric-Alfa Romeo and Fiat Avion, which is offering the T700/T6E engine, for the engine contract of the NH-90 program. If the RTM322 is selected, assembly of all engines ordered for the German NH90-program will be done by Rolls-Royce Turbomeca. The NH90 helicopter program is expected to release a contract for an initial production batch in early 1999.
