Article Abstract:

The market in Belgium for soft drinks and mineral waters is expected to grow well in the long-term, although sales for 1997 are only expected to increase marginally due to poor summer weather conditions. Volume sales of beer are expected to show a decline in 1997 and 1996, although demand for higher-value beers is expected to rise. Total drinks production fell 4.6% in 1996 to BFr82.6 billion from 1995. Sales of soft drinks and mineral water fell 5% to BFr31,557 in 1996, with exports good, although imports also increased 16.4% by value in 1995.

Imports of soft drinks by France rose to 265 million litres in 1994, while exports rose 11% to 436 million litres, compared to 1993. Consumption of soft drinks in France also rose, mainly as a result of the hot summer. The markets for non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks in France are discussed further, including details of production, foreign trade, consumption, and forecasts for the future.

Consumption of wine plateaued over the period 1992/94, although this is forecast to decline over 1995/96. The markets for non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks are discussed further, including details of output, foreign trade, consumption, and forecasts for the future.
