Norway quotas to aid processors

Article Abstract:

According to a report from the Norwegian Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture Research (Fiskeriforskning) a positive outcome of implementation of European UnionEs fishing quotas is that the fish processing industries will be able to function in a predictable environment. The effect of fishing quotas on fish processing industry is discussed.

Trawling impact study

Article Abstract:

Vigo owners' co-op ARVI is studying the effect of trawling on the seabed of Hatton bank. Spanish ministry of fisheries and Spanish research institute IEO are also parties to the said research. Protests from non-governmental organizations prompted the said study.

Icelandic Marine Research Institute has developed a new method of underwater filming with low light towed cameras. The design and construction of this new equipment is described. The equipment will be useful in fishing for capelin in Icelandic waters.
