ONGC TO STEP UP EXPLORATION IN CENTRAL ASIA

Article Abstract:

The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has signed an agreement with Lukoil of Russia for joint oil exploration in central Asian countries. Both the companies plan to bid for exploration of oil in Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iraq. The companies together would make investments of $150-200 million in the ventures. The agreement is likely to help India get supply of crude oil to meet the projected demand of 120 million tonnes by 2006-07 AD. ONGC has signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. (rk)

ONGC CLOSE TO CLINCHING OIL DEAL WITH RUSSIA

Article Abstract:

The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is close to clinching a deal with Tatneft to develop oil fields in the Russian republic of Tatarstan. Tatneft, the premier oil and gas company of Tatarstan, has offered ONGC attractive oil fields including the Ramashkin field. A agreement is expected to be signed during an ONGC delegation's visit to Tatarstan in April 1999. ONGC wants to bring back the oil extracted there to India, to which Tatarstan does not seem to have any objection (khr)

ONGC SPUDS FIRST DEEP LAND WELL IN OMAN

Article Abstract:

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), which has entered into a contract with National Drilling Service Company, has started drilling its first deep land well in the Rub Ali Khali desert in Oman. The contract was bagged from Japex Montashar Limited of Japan which obtained the block. ONGC started the Oman project ahead of schedule by dismantling its rig at Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh. (gsh)
