Denmark is demanding it be allowed to change the treaty which would determine its role in the European Community. Denmark refuses to agree to complete monetary union, shared defense and other key sections of the treaty most other European nations support.

Greek Prime Minister Constantine Mitsotakis has asked the European Community to reconsider allowing the Yugoslavian province Macedonia become an independent nation under that name. Greece wants the province to choose a new name.
