On the estimation of optimal batch sizes in the analysis of simulation output

Article Abstract:

An estimation procedure for determining the optimal batch size to minimize the mean squared error of estimators of the variance of the sample mean is almost as effective as it would be if the parameters of the autoregressive processes were known. Experiments involving symmetric two-state Markov chain models, first-order autoregressive processes, seasonal autoregressive processes and queue-waiting times for a number of M/M/1 queueing models were conducted for an empirical assessment of the procedure.

Generating a pseudo-random time series with specified marginal distributions

Article Abstract:

The application of the marginal-oriented technique to the problem of generating a stationary series with a predetermined marginal distribution and a predetermined lag-one autocorrelation. The approach involves the conversion of a reference series, a known autocorrelated series, to its corresponding uniform autocorrelated random variables followed by the implementation of inverse transformation to each observation to produce the target series.

A decision support system for power plant design

Article Abstract:

Consideration of a support design system (DSS) was proposed for designing power plants. The proposal was derived after incorporating a DSS module in the simulation framework of IPSE pro, a programmable integrated process simulation environment developed by SimTech. It was shown through incorporation of a DSS module, design engineers are able to undertake a better choice-evaluation of aspects pertaining to the design of power plants.
