Efficiency measurement in the stochastic frontier model

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the development of a stochastic frontier model which allows for measurement and inefficiency errors in the production process. The limitations of the model are discussed.

On the measurement of technical efficiency in the public sector

Article Abstract:

Not controlling the environmental variables when measuring technical efficiency through linear programming results in biased estimates. The mathematical programming process is applied to frontier estimation known as Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to allow the environmental variables. The existing DEA model is found to overestimate the level of technical efficiency while the modified model is more efficient in controlling for exogenous factors.

The weighted Russell measure of technical efficiency

Article Abstract:

A new tool, called the Weighted Russell measure, was developed to precisely measure technical efficiency. The new technical efficiency measure, which takes into consideration econometric production function estimation, tries to integrate resulting weights into a linear programming model. It also simultaneously permits non-radial reduction of inputs and unbalanced factor weights.
