The battle for Midland
Article Abstract:
The British government should not be involved in the battles between Midland Bank PLC and Lloyd's of London. Lloyd's is asking the government to step in and get involved in it's attempted takeover, but the government should decline and let the shareholders decide.

Sakura Bank's recent merger characterizes the cautious merger practices of Japanese banks. The main goal of a Japanese bank merger is to boost market share. Sakura plans to retain most of its employees, and to undertake limited cost-cutting measures.
