PAKISTAN TRADE DEFICIT WITH INDIA TOUCHES Rs 276 CRORE

Article Abstract:

According to the Export Promotion Bureau of Pakistan, Pakistan recorded a deficit of Rs276 crore in its bilateral trade with India during 1997-98. Pakistan exported 25 items worth Rs415 crore to India and imported 26 items worth Rs690 crore from India. Pakistan exported sugar and fruit and vegetables worth Rs345 crore to India. It also exported fish worth $290,000, spices worth $100,000 oil seeds and oleaginous fruits worth $605,000 and leather goods worth $929,000. It imported fruits and vegetables worth $12.46 million, sugar worth $12.916 million, spices worth $4.14 million and ore and concentrates of iron/steel worth $15.548 million from India. (ag)(vr)

Hidesign, a leather brand, is being launched in India. The leather, which has a distinctive rough finish, undergoes a 40-day tanning process. Speer Communications, the company's advertising agency, has launched a campaign to put the product under a separate category. The leather brand is being stocked at outlets of foreign companies like Selfridges, Liberty, House of Frazers in the UK and Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman in USA. (gs)
