Punjab National Bank has posted a growth of 110.87 percent in its total profit at Rs501.25 crore for 1997-98 (Rs237.71 crore in 1996-97). Its operating profit has increased by 29.28 percent to Rs801.11 crore (Rs619.65 crore). Its total income has grown by 12.27 percent to Rs4628.82 crore (Rs4122.78 crore). Its advances have increased by 14.04 percent to Rs15,042.63 crore (Rs14,066.89 crore). Its deposits have increased by 14.17 percent to Rs35,173.55 crore (Rs30,806.41 crore). (rk)

VIJAYA BANK RECORDS 25% GROWTH IN NET

Vijaya Bank has posted a 25 percent rise in net profit to Rs23.31 crore in 1997-98. It has earned a total income of Rs891.61 crore (Rs796.12 crore in 1996-97). Operating profit increased by 83.3 percent to Rs63.75 crore (Rs34.77 crore). The bank's total business has improved by 83.3 percent to Rs11,720 crore (Rs9,563 crore). Investments increased by 22 percent to Rs3,788 crore. (gs)
