Paging Asia: an Israeli firm offers two-way messaging technology

Article Abstract:

Israeli firm Nexus Telecommunications Systems is selling a new pager technology in Asia that allows two-way messaging and uses less bandwidth than conventional technologies. Samsung Electronics bought a non-exclusive manufacturing license, and Ausralia's INC Communications will set up a pilot network. Using Israeli military technology, the device may be superior to Motorola's two-way pager, which relies on a single fixed channel and requires immediate response to a page. Anti-theft devices and other services may follow.

Drawing the line: political cartoonist takes aim at China's communist elite

Article Abstract:

Zunzi is Hong Kong's preeminent political cartoonist, thanks to a cinematic style and a willingness to challenge China with wit and courage. The 39-year-old's work appears in the Chinese-language publications 'Ming Pao' and 'Next,' as well as other forums. His basic message is that China must confront corruption and improve human rights to reach its modernization goals. Although his wife, a journalist, has lost work for being equally outspoken, he shows little fear of the coming rule of China in Hong Kong.

The long way home: cartoonist who made his mark in the U.S. returns to his roots

Article Abstract:

Wallop Manyun has returned to Thailand after a successful career as a cartoonist in New York City, where he won numerous awards and was widely published. Three years ago, with projects hard to come by in his adopted land, he returned to set up a shop in his native town of Chiang Mai. He also produces freelance work and pursues social causes, mainly trying to raise rural incomes. His trademark buffalo, which once graced the pages of 'Fortune' magazine and 'The New York Times,' now spoof Thai generals.
