Peru's Promcepri starts to roll

Article Abstract:

The Peruvian government commission in charge of infrastructure privatization, Promcepri, has appointed four special committees to oversee the initial concessions. The committees will develop a concession mechanism in co-operation with investment banks and consultants. The first four concessions comprise a 'B' cellular telephone band for all of the country excluding Lima, a road network, the irrigation and hydro-electric project in Olmos and the Mantaro-Socabaya electricity transmission line. The first road project will probably be the Panamerican highway to the Ecuadorean border from Piura.

ENEL may face shake-up

Article Abstract:

The Italian government has found it very difficult to establish an appropriate framework for the privatisation of state electricity concern ENEL. A special commission has now put forward a number of recommendations, including the creation of an independent dispatching and grid transmission organisation. The commission believes that, if the manager of the country's transmission network remains under state control, then it should have responsibility for ENEL's hydro plant, thus making it possible to balance supply and demand.
