Philippines seeks catchy slogans to eclipse negative publicity

Article Abstract:

Tourism in the Philippines is down about 10% this year due to political instability in the southern regions. With less than $1 million to spend on promoting tourism, Tourism Secretary Richard Gordon is trying to come up with a slogan that will attract visitors. One suggestion is "7,107 islands, 7,107 smiles", but Gordon feels that one smile per island is not enough to adequately describe the warmth of the Philippine people.

Wealthy, old sultanate promotes exotic image to draw tourists

Article Abstract:

The country of Brunei has launched a $2.9 million campaign to attract more tourism in an effort to diversify the economy outside of oil and gas. The campaign, called "Visit Brunei 2001", aims to bring one million visitors to the sultanate, a significant increase from last year's 600,000.
