Since last year's merger of telecommunications companies Sprint Corp. and Nextel Communications Inc., key staff have left, and many cellphone customers have switched to rival companies. However, CEO Gary Forsee believes that the company is on the road to long-term growth, despite its recent difficulties.

China Mobile Ltd. is planning to acquire up to eight provincial mobile networks in China. The US$10 billion to US$14 billion deal entails networks in Hubei, Jiangxi, Hunan, Anhui, Sichuan, Chongqing, Shaanxi, and Shanxi.
