PricewaterhouseCoopers
Article Abstract:
Pricewaterhouse Coopers is seeking to significantly increase its presence in Germany. It currently focuses on the information and communications, automotive, technology and consumer packaged goods sectors, with a minimum deal value of around Dm100 million. It benefits from the fact that, in terms of advisory work, it has a much wider service offering than its investment banking competitors. It is able to offer additional services such as due diligence, bid support and accounting and auditing after an acquisition has been made.

Meeting a legal challenge
Article Abstract:
The decision by accounting firm Price Waterhouse to establish a legal practice specialising in corporate finance highlights the extent to which accounting firms are now moving into legal advisory work. Top law firms believe that they will not face a serious challenge from accounting firms, as they feel that legal practices linked with accounting firms will only gain small advisory mandates. However, accounting firms could still compete strongly with middle-sized law firms and large regional law firms.

London calling
Article Abstract:
Accounting firms are extensively involved in merger and acquisition advisory work in the West Midlands region of the UK. Firms including Price Waterhouse, Coopers and Lybrand and Ernst and Young have corporate finance units in Birmingham, England, while Henry Ansbacher is the only investment bank in the city. Accounting firms are active in merger and acquisition advisory work because the banking sector has turned its attention to higher-value deals.
