Re-starting arms control

Article Abstract:

The strategic arms reduction pacts between the US and Russia need new life. By 2000 under START I, both sides will be down to about 6,000 long-range nuclear weapons. Under START II, by year 2003, the cut should be down to about 3,000 each. But START II has not been ratified by the Russians yet.

Article Abstract:

Czechoslovakia was the world's seventh-ranked weapons exporter at its peak in 1987. However, the splitting of the Warsaw Pact and the breakup into separate Slovak and Czech states has decimated the weapons industry.
