Reed Elsevier beats expectations with 2000 earnings

Reed Elsevier posted higher-than-expected pretax profits for the 2000 year. The company posted 690 million pounds (1.1 billion euros) in pretax profits for the year, compared to the expected 670 million pounds to 691 million pounds.
