Although the Nordic countries are growing economically, it is unlikely that they will become a model of a third economic system that falls somewhere between capitalism and communism. Except for Norway, unemployment remains high, and success is due to the conventional strategy of limiting government spending and raising taxes.

Kroons, lats, litas: Baltic States

Estonia has successfully abandoned the Russian rouble and restored its pre-occupation currency, the kroon. The kroon is now linked to the D-mark. Neighboring Latvia and Lithuania recently followed Estonia's lead by re-establishing the lats and litas, respectively.
