Hong Kong democracy campaigners have interpreted comments by Beijing that some opposition politicians are unpatriotic as a signal that the Chinese Communist Party is not willing to accept increased political freedom in the territory. U.S. officials insist they have raised concerns about political reform in Hong Kong.
