Road kill

Article Abstract:

The environmental impact of roads may be more severe when communities of wildlife are isolated from one another. This means that local populations are more likely to be annihilated, according to research which showed the impact of allowing links between populations, and severing those links. Road building schemes could thus have a greater impact than realised, but this research also suggests ways of tackling the problem by building tunnels and other links so that populations are not cut off from each other.

A road through the heart

Article Abstract:

Route 66 is part of US mythology and culture and a Route 66 preservation bill has been enacted that is a victory for grass root. There were over 2,400 miles of the original Route 66, from Chicago to Los Angeles. Route 66 came to be replaced by Interstate highways which attracted traffic, though offered less charm. Route 66 historic signs started to appear from 1995. Route 66 has become fragmented, but around 80% of the route can still be driven through.
