Ruble moves aid Sibneft's profit flow

OAO Sibneft posted a major turnaround during the first-half of 1999. The company posted $63.8 million (59.4 million euros) during the first half. During the same period in 1998, Sibneft posted a $60.3 million loss The company's revenues declined 45% to $621.59 million. Sibneft became the first oil firm in Russia to post major financial gains from the devaluation of the ruble in 1998.

Russia's oil reserves given higher estimate

BP PLC has increased its estimate of oil reserves in Russia. According to BP, oil reserves rose by 23% to 60 billion barrels in 2002. This is compared to 48.6 billion barrels in 2001.
