NPAs PROVE A DRAG ON BoI's PROFIT GROWTH

Article Abstract:

Bank of India (BoI) has posted a 1.25 percent growth in its net profit to Rs364.51 crore in 1997-98 (Rs360.04 crore in 1996-97). It has declared a dividend of 30 percent (15 percent). Its global deposits has increased by 23.04 percent to Rs39,399 crore and its advances by 20.09 percent to Rs2,021 crore. Investments have risen by 22 percent to Rs13,030 crore. Its operating profit has registered a 20 percent growth to Rs580 crore (Rs490 crore). Its ratio of non performing assets (NPAs) to total advances has risen to 7.34 percent (6.5 percent). It has earmarked Rs316 crore for NPAs during the year (Rs4 crore). (rk)
