SILK EXPORTS UP IN VALUE, DOWN IN QUANTUM
Article Abstract:
The value of silk exports increased by 5.2 percent but the quantity exported decreased by 16.3 percent in 1997-98. The exports of ready-made garments decreased by 42.9 percent in volume and 17.4 percent in value. The exports of carpets increased by 37.6 percent to Rs128.86 crore in 1997-98 against Rs93.62 crore in 1996-97. Total silk exports from India was Rs926.28 crore in 1997-98 against Rs880.44 crore in 1996-97. Silk exports to West European countries increased by 9.4 percent to Rs298.49 crore. The export of silk waste increased to Rs20.89 crore in 1997-98 from Rs3.44 crore in 1996-97. (khr)

TTK AIMS AT $30-M EXPORTS IN THREE YEARS

TTK Prestige Ltd has projected that its export turnover will reach $30 million in 3 years. It posted an export turnover of $4 million in 1997-98 and $2.5 million in the first quarter of 1998- 99. It has set up its 100 percent subsidiary in USA, called Manttra Inc, with a total investment of $600,000, and launched the Manttra brand of pressure cookers recently. The brand is being sold through many US chain stores like Sears, Macy's and teleshopping networks like HSN, QVC and Fingerhut. It claims to be a market leader in its segment having sold 2 million units in USA. (khr)

MARINE EXPORTS REGISTER 2% RISE
Article Abstract:
The exports of marine food products improved by nearly two percent during 1997-98 in terms of quantity and by 14 percent in value terms. Total earnings stood at $1.3 billion with 400,000 tonnes of sea food exported to the US, Japan, countries in the European Union, West Asia and other countries. The largest shipment of around 125,561 tonnes valued at Rs636.15 crore was handled by the Porbandar and Kandla ports in Gujarat. (gsh)
