SWITZERLAND: MAYR-MELNHOF CLOSES EMIL CHRIST

Mayr-Melnhof Karton AG of Austria is to close down the factory of the Swiss Thal-based board producer Emil Christ AG which it acquired in June 2001. The Swiss company that employs 115 staff is said to be highly indebted. According to Mayr-Melnhof, the investments that would have been needed would have been too high.

CZECH REPUBLIC: TICK-BORNE ENCEPHALITIS IN 2000
Article Abstract:
In year 2000, there were 709 cases of tick-borne encephalitis and one death in the Czech Republic. About 10% of the population have been vaccinated against viral encephalitis.
