Article Abstract:

The need for long-term structuring among Japanese companies will create particular challenges for managers. It will no longer be possible to guarantee managers life-long employment, and changes will have to be made to the way in which middle managers are trained. The traditional approach to training middle managers has left most of them with no transferable skills. Many companies are now recognizing the need to send young managers to foreign business schools, and also acknowledge that new ideas will have to be encouraged.

Who needs factories? Japan

Article Abstract:

Nissan is offering jobs at other factories to the 2,500 workers from Zama, Japan, who will be displaced when a automobile factory closes. Unemployment is not common in Japan, and many workers are refusing to move because other jobs in Zama are available.
