Chief executives of Sun Microsystems Inc. and Microsoft Corp. have agreed to end a dispute over competition tactics, citing consumer impatience with industry squabbles. Sun's Scott McNealy and Microsoft's Steve Ballmer announced that Sun will drop an antitrust suit over Microsoft's competition with Java, which has caused some consumers to defect to International Business Machines Corp. products.
