Setting the agenda for future urban development
Article Abstract:
The winning design in the UK Millennium Village competition had taken environmental issues into consideration and prioritized pedestrians use of the area. Its designers hoped to use 80% recyclable building materials and cut primary energy consumption by 80%. The architect was Ralph Erskine and the design team was led by Hunt Thompson. The village will be built in Greenwich, England, as a joint venture between a group of companies led by Taylor Woodrow and English Partnerships. It will include 1377 dwellings costing between 90,000-300,000 pounds sterling each.

A special sense of place: In the last two decades, artists in Wales have shaped both rural and urban landscapes with works that reflect local culture
Article Abstract:
The quality of certain landscape projects in Wales is exceptional, particularly the work of Robert Camlin in Parc Glynllifon and Robin Campbell in the Maritime Quarter in Swansea. Some of the landscape projects are vast, such as the millennium scheme of the Llaelli Coastal Park, where artists are working alongside designers. The SUSTRANS' national cycle network is another Millennium scheme. There is a link between landscape, artworks and poetry, that appears to reflect a specifically Welsh sensibility.
