Shoppers flood mall since doors opened in November
Article Abstract:
The six-storey Festival Walk shopping center in Kowloon is the biggest mall in Hong Kong. Since its opening in Nov 1998, the mall has been attracting a record number of visitors, its traffic bolstered daily by thousands of commuters who stream in from the two terminals nearby. However, observers say that the crowds have not necessarily translated into bigger sales and the verdict on the mall's viability is still uncertain. Festival Walk's developers, however, call it a success, noting that the center was intended to serve as a convenient alternative to the malls of Hong Kong Island.
