Simultaneous determination of the cutting speed and lot size values in machining systems

Article Abstract:

An iterative technique that concurrently computes the cutting speed and lot size values in machining systems with the goal of minimizing the total cost function is introduced. The procedure, which differentiates the total cost incurred by the machining and lot sizing tasks to obtain the values, yields a lower cost solution than separate strategies for calculating the two variables. Its application to the single-item and multiple-item cases are discussed along with the effects of negligible and non-negligible setup times.

Joint product durability and lot sizing models

Article Abstract:

A model that facilitates the joint determination of product durability and order quantity for perishable goods is introduced. The model represents product durability choices in terms of a design parameter that influence the time-to-onset of deterioration (TOD) distribution. Using it, two scenarios were explored under the assumption of deterministic exponential decay. The first pertains to products with an expiry date while the second involves products with a random (TOD).
