Singapore has announced several new measures aimed at maintaining the country's image as the financial hub of Asia. The new measures, which will take effect during the 1st qtr. 1997, include allowing foreign companies to list shares denominated in Singapore dollars on the stock exchange and the formal acceptance of short selling. Analysts lauded such measures stressing that these will help liberalize Singapore's financial markets and bolster the country's attractiveness to investors.

Singapore startles investors with hold on major listing

The investor community was caught unawares by the Singapore government's sudden decision to postpone the initial public offering for Singapore Power.
