Smart gear weighted longline catches more - and cuts turtle by-catch

Article Abstract:

Australian Fishery Management Authority has tested the weighted deep-set tuna longline system developed by fisherman Steve Beverly. The results showed that the product increased the tuna catches. Even the by-catches of turtles were reduced through the system. Beverly won International Smart Gear prize for the product.
