Article Abstract:
Volkswagenwerk AG has survived a confrontation with General Motors Corp. and has moved on to an improved performance. General Motors (GM) alleged that one of its former high ranking executives stole information and used it for Volkswagen's (VW's) benefit when he moved to VW in 1993. GM won the battle when it received an out-of-court settlement from VW, but VW escaped lightly and went on to restore its profitability. VW was not prepared for the legal problems when it took the management decision to attract the GM executive, but the decision became a proven sign of a new ruthless management strategy in the company.

Article Abstract:
Improving relations between the UK and Argentina will be underlined by the visit by Argentinian president, Carlos Memem to the UK in November. Since the restoration of commercial ties in 1989 Anglo-Argentinian trade has risen and UK exports to Argentina amounted to nearly 500 million pounds sterling in 1997. Argentina has the potential to be wealthy, with rich, but largely unexploited reserves of natural resources. Argentina is committed to free-market policies and an investment regime which puts foreign investors in line with local counterparts.
