Sony's Stringer faces havoc at two units

Chief Executrive Officer Howard Stringer of Sony Corp. of Japan is facing political and financial struggles amongst the entertainment units that helped give him his appointment six months ago. Overall financial performance is down and there is an air of uncertainty. Also there is a standoff over the leadersip of the Sony BMG music unit.

EMI is set to slash jobs, drop artists
Article Abstract:
UK recording company EMI Group PLC is expected to announce significant staff layoffs, marketing expenditure reductions and the release of artists as it undergoes a restructuring launched by Terra Firma Capital Partners Ltd. Terra Firma is a private equity firm that bought EMI for $6.26 bil in 2007.

Tom Cruise and partner Paula Wagner have been given an ownership stake in United Artists Films, in an attempt to resurrect the company . Ms. Wagner will become the company's new CEO. Tom Cruise was dismissed from Paramount Pictures by CEO Sumner Redstone in August, 2006 .
