Special education
Article Abstract:
Special needs schools are governed by the UK Education (School Premises) Regulations 1981 as well as Building Regulations and Department for Education constructional standards where appropriate. Special schools are often required by local authorities to be accessible for disabled children, including full access to the National Curriculum. Mainstream schools are increasingly teaching children with special needs, with many students going on to higher education. Children with behavioural, sensory, physical and learning difficulties require special education.
