Spell Marilyn with a capital CEO

Article Abstract:

Carlson Companies' new CEO, Marilyn Carlson Nelson, took over the leadership of the company in March 1998 from her father, Curt Carlson, who led the firm for 60 years. The Plymouth, MN-based company's businesses, which include familiar hospitality and travel brand names such as Regent Hotels, Country Inns & Suites, Radisson Seven Seas Cruises, TGI Friday's, Carlson Wagon Lit Travel and Radisson Hotels, posted $20 billion in revenue in 1997. Nelson, despite her short tenure at Carlson's helm, has already racked up a number of acquisitions and mergers in line with the firm's strategy of international expansion.

Booting up in Santiago

Article Abstract:

US footwear firm Timberland Co opened its Latin American office in Santiago, Chile on Mar 8, 1999. The firm's senior manager for the Americas, Dan Wittner, said the office will serve as their base of operations in the region. Timberland as a brand name started in 1973 but its origins can be traced to the Abington Shoe Co which was acquired by Nathan Swartz in the 1950s. Timberland has expanded its product line to include gloves, packs, socks and leather care products.
