Standard Chartered to buy American Express Bank

UK bank Standard Chartered PLC is acquiring New York-based American Express Bank Ltd. for approximately $1.1 bil, which includes payment for American Express's Cayman Islands subsidiary residuals. The deal will double Standard Chartered's dollar clearing business and increase its global presence.
