Steady growth

Article Abstract:

The tourism industry in Malaysia has grown over the past years, particularly following the Visit Malaysia Year campaign. Traditionally the country has promoted sun, sea and sand, but it has been criticised for its limited range of products. It is now diversifying to include sports, business travel, international conventions and eco-tourism. There were fewer tourists from Singapore in 1996, due to the cholera outbreak in Penang, and a fall in the number of tourists from Taiwan, although there were increased numbers from Thailand and Japan.
