Hague's plans to revamp the organization of the Conservative Party may be crucial to its survival, as such an effort may boost declining membership. Several of Hague's proposals reflect the successful restructuring strategies of the Labor Party under Tony Blair.

The UK's recent Royal Commission on Criminal Justice was the first such body convened in 12 years since Margaret Thatcher did not favor commissions. There is much doubt about funding commissions because their recommendations are seldom implemented.
