In the 1980's, product quality was almost a mantra for US companies, which had to scramble to catch up to the Japanese in that category. Today US companies are placing less emphasis on total quality management as they focus on more immediate economic concerns.

Research into the rogue prion protein genes has divided on the question of whether humans are less or more likely to develop more prion-related diseases. The prion's evolutionary history seems to be independent of the host evolution of its many host species.
