Stuck in the pits

Article Abstract:

Electronic trading is likely to dominate futures dealing, but neither the Chicago Board of Trade or the Chicago Mercantile Exchange appear able to move to electronic trading. Most business is reserved for floor traders at the Board of Trade. The spread of electronic trading in Europe makes the electronic threat appear more serious in Chicago. Competition could come from a link between the New York Cotton Exchange and Cantor Fitzgerald. Other ventures could follow if this venture is not successful.

Future imperfect

Article Abstract:

The big fight

Article Abstract:

The Board of Trade (CBOT) and the Mercantile Exchange (CME) have expanded their continuous market-share battle to emerging-market futures. CBOT has been opening exchanges in Taiwan and elsewhere, while CME lists emerging- market futures on its own board, so far a more successful strategy.
