Japanese prime minister Kiichi Miyazawa had been suffering from declining approval ratings and had even reportedly fallen out of favor within his own Liberal Democratic party. The Liberal Democrats have a very powerful political machine, and an election this summer could bring a big victory.

Article Abstract:
Watanabe is not expected to make a return as foreign minister, because of a serious illness. Kiichi Miyazawa will fill in as prime minister, and the Liberal Democratic Party will continue to rule although they are short of a majority in parliament.
