The European Community's proposed currency union is not a necessary feature of its planned unified market, and may in fact be an economic liability. While strong economic arguments support the move toward a single market, the arguments in favor of EMU are largely political.

The new president will be the one chosen by the electoral college if the results of the popular vote are within 49.5 and 50.5. Past elections shows that close results can result in a victory for the candidate who received the smaller amount of popular votes.
