Symantec is in $1 billion IRS dispute

Article Abstract:

Symantec Corp. of the United States is in litigation with the United States Internal Revenue Service regarding $757 million owed in back taxes from the acquisition of Veritas Software Corp. of the United States. Further controversy over an interpretation of corporate tax law and the policy of "transfer pricing" is being investigated.

Wall Street lobbies for easier tax-free deals

Article Abstract:

Merger and acquisition legislation to decrease taxes on divestments is currently being evaluated by the United States Congress. The bill is being heavily lobbied by investment banks. It is forecast that passing of the bill would increase acquisition activity.
