TRI-SAKTHI MAY GET CEA NOD FOR POWER PROJECT IN JULY
Article Abstract:
Tri-Sakthi Energy Pvt Ltd (TEPL), is expected to secure the techno-economic-clearance for setting up a 525 mw coal-fired North Madras stage III power project. The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) is likely to accord clearance to the project in July 1998. TEPL is promoted by Pembiraan Redzai SDN Bhd, Malaysia. The project will be set up at Ennore, near Chennai. The company has secured the environmental clearance for the project. The project cost is estimated at Rs2,400 crore. The project will commence power generation by March 1999. It has a debt-equity ratio of 70:30. TEPL has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. GEC Alsthom has secured the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the project. (rk)

PPGC'S 330-MW MANKARA PROJECT TO TAKE OFF
Article Abstract:
The Rs1,200 crore power project of the Palakkad Power Generating Company (PPGC) at Mankara in Kerala is set to be implemented. PPGC is signing a fuel supply agreement (FSA) with the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL). It has signed a supply contract with Petronet LNG for the supply of liquefied natural gas. The promoters of the project - Boss Technologies of Mumbai - is finalising an agreement with the Pithawala Engineering Group, an NRI group of Germany, for setting up a joint venture to acquire 30 percent stake in the project. 21 COAL SUPPLY LINKAGES FOR 15,000 MW POWER CLEARED
Article Abstract:
The government has cleared 21 coal supply linkages to independent power projects for generating over 15,000 mw of power. The total amount of coal required to generate 15,000 mw of power will be over 29 million tonnes. Bina Power Supply Company, a joint venture between the Aditya Birla group and Power Gen of the UK, was the first to sign a coal supply agreement with South Eastern Coalfields Ltd on March 6, 1998 for its 1000 mw Korba power project.
